The Brauhaus

Schmitz story

In 2009 Owner Doug Hager opened his Brauhaus on South Street to fill a massive void in the German food and beverage scene in Philadelphia. Since opening, Brauhaus has quickly become one of the most authentic German Bierhalls and Restaurants in the United States, featuring the World’s Largest German Bier selection With 34 German beers on draft and over 50 in bottle! From Kölsch to Pilsners, Dunkels to Doppelbock, we are the perfect place to explore all that German Brewers have perfected for almost 1000 years! But the Brauhaus experience doesn’t end at the taps. Our Scratch kitchen is turning out the best Schnitzels, Spätzle, and Sauerkraut that would make any Oma proud. Don’t miss out on our Schweinshaxe (Pork Shank) that you’d be hard pressed to find on a menu outside of Munich. We are proud of our German heritage and happy to bring an Authentic Bierhall experience to the city of Brotherly Love.

We're all about

authentic bierhall experience

We believe Brauhaus is a place for everyone, whether its a first date, a group gathering for Sunday Funday, a corporate Lunch, or a packed Haus for a major sporting event, we are versatile enough to host all types of occasions and events. A Bierhall should be lively, and boisterous at times, communal yet cozy. A place for all ages to relax and enjoy time spent together over a meal, unpretentious, not rushed, Gemütlichkeit is our goal. German food is comfort food, meat and potatoes, and the bier should be poured at the proper temperature and in the correct glass. You should expect nothing less when visiting the Brauhaus.
