Open since 2009, Brauhaus Schmitz has revived the city’s love affair with its German heritage and reintroduced a whole generation of Philadelphians to the foods of their forefathers. This Teutonic kitchen churns out excellent Haus-Made Sausages, Savory Schnitzels, and the Best Schweinhaxe outside of Munich. To complement the much-lauded food at Brauhaus, Owner Doug Hager continues to grow its outstanding beer list. By cultivating a close relationship with brewers during his frequent visits to Germany, Brauhaus is able to present the World’s Largest German beer selection with 34 rotating draft lines, all imported from the Vaterland! In addition to the amazing draft beer selection, you will find another 100 mostly German Flaschenbier (Bottles) as well as a well-rounded wine and spirits selection! This place is nothing short of awesome. Authentic German experience with a wide selection of beers and classic German food. This place was fantastic and accommodated the newly married couple and party! Before I go into detail on the German cuisine, I should preface this review with the fact that I've only ever been to 3 other German restaurants. Based on my in laws reaction who actually lived in Germany, the food is indeed "top notch" by their standards! The first thing ordered were the appetizers. This consisted of, kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes with apple sauce), Laugenbrezel (Bavarian pretzel with an awesome cheese sauce), and the bier-klöpse which is a top tier entree that is a definite go to, of these the options. A sausage board was also added to the appetizer list and shared amongst the table. The sausages were all good. I ordered the Jäger schnitzel with the fries (pommes) and spätzel. The sauce alone is something to be talked about! I enjoyed every bite and wish I could have had more. Definitely one of my favorite German go to restaurants! The staff was very friendly and attentive and had great suggestions for the different beers they had.

THIS PLACE IS LITERALLY A JOKE !!!!!.. I left my backpack there due to the fact that that I had forgotten my wallet and was unable to pay. So i had decided to leave my backpack and also my id . My sister was unfortunately in a very serious car accident the next day and I was unable to stop buy and pay . When I called in two days later they said I don't even need to pay the bill only to find out they lost my backpack!!!!! I called numerous times and they always said that there wasn't a backpack or there wasn't a manager available. Finally got ahold of a manager today and he proceeds to tell me that there's no backpack and then THAT THEY HAVE HAD THINGS GO MISSING BEFORE!!!! I will never be back again and thanks again for losing my stuff Also the manager said they have problems with a guy who pick pockets ....
