5th Annual Brauhaus Schmitz Oktoberfest
Philadelphia, PA, August 22, 2013 –Brauhaus Schmitz’s is back with its 5th Annual Oktoberfest Season. The celebration kicks off Monday September 16th. With the addition of the Brauer Bund, Wursthaus Schmitz and new events 2013 will make this the largest Oktoberfest yet, with an expectance of over 5,000 attendees. We’re proud to announce our sponsors this year: CityPaper, WhereMagazine, CityEats, Paulaner, Warsteiner, Hofbrau, Traunstein, Berentzen. The event will be held rain or shine. Admission is free and street and lot parking are available.
The Official 5th Annual Oktoberfest Block Party will start at 12pm and end at 8pm. The 700 block of South Street will be closed to traffic allowing us to erect a 200 foot long tent with seating for approximately 700. This year we will also have a stage area set up near 8th st. The Heimatklange band will once again entertain with live Oompah music. Other activities throughout the day will be the tapping of a ceremonial keg, the Championship round of our Liter Lift Competition, as well as facepainting, schnapps tasting, approximately 2000 pounds of Sausage and Pork, and copious amounts of German beer. Brauhaus has added some new and exciting events the week before and after their street festival as well as an addition of another Oktoberfest festival at Wursthaus Schmitz in the Reading Terminal Market (full details to follow).
Owner Doug Hager and Chef Jeremy Nolen are preparing for their biggest year to date “”It amazes me how much this event has exploded over the past 4 years! It started out with a little 50 seat beer garden on the sidewalk to this monster event that attracts thousands of people. We have made some changes in the layout that should allow for more space for everyone but expanding this event is becoming a very serious consideration. This truly has become one of the best Oktoberfest events in the area” says Hager.
“This year will be our biggest Oktoberfest yet. In terms of food, last year we cooked almost one ton and this year I think we can break that. It’s crazy to think that we will have more than a ton of pork sold in one day! Our hashtag #aporkalypse is definitely appropriate this year.”, says Chef Nolen.
All events are free admission and pay as you go!
